Customer Story

Fastnet Underwriting launched and scaled on Applied Riskhandler

Irish firm, Fastnet, went from zero to writing high volumes of premium within months, with new brokers activated within an hour.

Challenge

A start-up MGA with credibility to earn

Founded in 2023, Fastnet Underwriting is a technology-driven Irish MGA that set out to serve underserved customers in private motor insurance. “We identified that drivers with complex driving histories are demographics that require a nuanced, flexible underwriting approach rather than a rigid, rule-based decline system,” said David Bolger, CEO of Fastnet Underwriting.

As a newcomer, Fastnet had to earn credibility with brokers and customers by showing it could manage large volumes of business reliably and efficiently. As a technology-first business, it also wanted a modern, cloud-enabled platform that fit its digital approach, including third-party data enrichment and ID verification. “We required a CRM and policy admin system we could easily access and trust,” said Bolger.

Solution

A configurable platform from set-up to launch

Fastnet chose Applied Riskhandler, a highly configurable platform for insurance distribution, to launch its business and market proposition quickly. Rapid deployment, real-time rating and self-service capability supported the MGA from initial set-up through market launch and scaling. Shortly after its formation, Fastnet went live with its first policies on Applied Riskhandler, and the official market launch followed in October 2024, once regulatory, funding and carrier arrangements were complete.

Applied Riskhandler covers underwriting, policy admin, claims and document management in one system. It supports low-code product build and full-cycle rating, bind, referral and document generation, with a referral process for onboarding non-standard business. “Applied Riskhandler is the ideal tool for MGAs who want to adopt an agile approach to build, maintain and sustain growth through new product development,” said Bolger.

Integration with Applied Connect supports day-to-day policy work. “The seamless integration with Applied Connect allows us to access policies easily, handle renewals smoothly, and benefit from automated data flows,” said Geoff Beggs, Chief Operating Officer.

“Simple credit control and accounts management minimised administrative overheads and impressed both the internal team and external brokers. Another highlight was Riskhandler’s quick onboarding process, especially the ability to activate brokers within an hour,” Beggs added.

How Applied Riskhandler helps

Product build, rating, policy admin and broker onboarding sit on one platform, so a new MGA can launch and scale quickly.

Rules by customer segment

Configurable underwriting rules let Fastnet price and accept drivers with complex histories instead of declining them by default.

Brokers live within an hour

Quick onboarding and open distribution features let Fastnet add brokers to its network as fast as demand grows.

One system for each policy

Rating, binding, referrals, documents, claims and accounts all run in one place, keeping administrative overheads low.
