Burns Insurance strengthens business continuity with the cloud
Burns Insurance experienced frequent outages because of the volatile weather in Wyoming and Montana. The agency needed technology to improve its business continuity, as well as standardize the data between all locations. Burns Insurance chose to manage its business with Applied Epic, hosted in Applied Cloud. Enhanced business continuity, security and standardization are now just a few of the benefits Burns Insurance experiences through Applied.
"Applied Epic provides access to the same data across all locations. The accuracy of data mitigates our E&O, and I sleep better at night knowing that our data is safe."

Due to the environmental factors across the West and its rural clients, Burns Insurance needed a cloud-based management system that would provide business continuity in any situation. The staff required the ability to work remote if power or Internet was down at any of the offices. Additionally, Burns Insurance needed software to standardize workflows across its many locations.
Burns Insurance chose to manage its business with Applied Epic, hosted in Applied Cloud. Applied Epic, the fastest-growing cloud-based agency management system, automates and standardizes business operations, providing all of the office access to business information.
Applied Cloud is the only purpose-built cloud platform specific to the insurance industry. With access to operations recovery, backup encryption and data security, Applied Cloud provides advanced business continuity. Additionally, the Applied Cloud Services team provides all maintenance and upgrades during off business hours, minimizing business disruption.

Because Burns Insurance has a number of rural locations across Wyoming and Montana, a cloud-based management system was essential to keep operations connected. With Applied Cloud, Tier III+ data centers ensure all data is backed up and accessible. The single system provides Burns Insurance with a complete view of the business to each person in the agency to access and act upon – regardless of role, time or location. “Applied Epic provides access to the same data across all locations,” said Bob McIntyre, IT training and quality assurance manager, Burns Insurance. “The accuracy of data mitigates our E&O, and I sleep better at night knowing that our data is safe.” Everyone across all offices has access to the same repository of information and customer data.
Burns Insurance leverages Applied Cloud for enhanced data security, trusting Applied resources to provide top-level security. “Applied Cloud provides optimal security, and we know we can trust it,” said McIntyre. “We worry much less about a data breach – Applied handles that.” All databases stored in Applied Cloud leverage AES-256 data-at-rest-encryption (DARE) and are protected by a minimum of 128-bit, bi-directional, packet-level encryption. Applied Cloud Services manage all maintenance and upgrades during off business hours, minimizing business disruption.
The agency has hired less people as they continue to grow at the same pace because of Applied Epic. “We haven’t had to hire anyone else for system administration since launching Applied Epic,” said McIntyre. “Previously, we had 16 offices with many people doing things several different ways, and today we have standardized operations and everyone has access to the same information, which enhances our productivity.” Applied Epic, hosted in Applied Cloud enables Burns Insurance to increase overall agency efficiency, reducing time and expenses spent operating on an on-premise system.
At Burns Insurance, the primary focus is on providing insurance protection based on client needs and growth. The agency offers a number of niche policies ranging from agribusiness to oil and gas to FirePak insurance, serving the needs of rural businesses across Wyoming and Montana.
