Key Takeaways

  • Applied's new brand reflects a strategic shift in who Applied is and where it's headed.

  • As The Current That Connects Insurance, Applied connects brokers, insurers and their clients across the policy lifecycle.

  • One Applied brand now serves two audiences, brokers and insurers – a model that mirrors how Applied Canada has long operated.

In more than a decade at Applied, I've been part of several brand evolutions. Most of them were intentionally surface-level – a refreshed colour palette, an updated website and so on. Each one did its job and kept the spotlight where it belonged at the time.

This one is different. If you've visited appliedsystems.com this week, you've already met the new Applied: a new logo, a bolder look and a clearer way of telling our story. What you're seeing is the outward expression of who Applied has become and where we're headed next as The Current That Connects Insurance™. For brokers and insurers across Canada, I want to share what that means for you.

Why a new brand, and why now

For decades, organizations across the insurance ecosystem have relied on Applied to simplify complexity, connect workflows and keep business moving. That role has grown. As insurance becomes more digital and AI becomes part of everyday work, Applied is evolving from a trusted system of record into the connective intelligence between brokers and insurers, helping workflow, decisions sharpen and value build over time.

In Canada, that moment carries real weight. Talent and capacity pressure, rising client expectations, consolidation, a growing regulatory load and more complex risks are arriving all at once. The question facing the industry is how AI, data, automation and connectivity create measurable outcomes while preserving the trust, advice and advocacy that define the broker channel. Those pressures are a big part of why I believe this is the right moment for a new brand.

Our strategy has been moving quickly to meet that moment, and our brand needed to keep pace. So we set out with three goals.

Simplify our story. Applied connects and automates every stage of the policy lifecycle, but the way we talked about it didn't always reflect that. Customers told us our long list of product names made it harder to see the connected value underneath. One clear Applied brand, with fewer names to keep track of, makes that value easier to recognize.

Modernize how we show up. Applied has always looked ahead. Our brand needed a look, voice and experience that reflect the technology we build today, including AI.

Show what sets us apart. As the market becomes more competitive, our brand has to make clear what makes Applied different: we connect brokers, insurers and their clients across the full policy lifecycle. We're a humble company by nature, and that humility serves our customers well. But this is a moment to say clearly what we're uniquely positioned to do.

Bringing our Canadian story together

In Canada, Applied's story runs through many names. Compu-Quote and Policy Works, Indio, Planck and Cytora each brought something essential to our portfolio: rating, digital applications, risk data and AI. The teams behind them built capabilities that Canadian brokers and insurers rely on today.

Over time, though, all those names made Applied look more complex than it is. The new brand brings that work together under one Applied, in recognition of years of effort across the lifecycle. What each team built continues in our work every day, now as part of one connected company. If you rely on any of these capabilities today, the new brand changes how Applied looks, sounds and tells its story. Your day-to-day work carries on as it does now.

We started by listening

Before we changed a single pixel, we spent months listening, through hundreds of calls and interviews with leaders across Applied, with customers and – just as importantly – with brokers and insurers who don't work with us yet. We paired those conversations with quantitative research and looked hard at where the industry is heading next.

Two things stood out. Our customers believe in the vision, and that belief is something our whole team feels responsible for living up to. Insurers told us they see real value in a closer connection to Applied and the brokers we serve. Together, those insights gave us the confidence to be bold.

That research led us to a global hybrid model: one Applied brand supporting two core audiences, brokers and insurers. In Canada, this will feel familiar, because it's similar to how Applied Canada has always operated. The result is one company to recognize, and each audience can quickly see which capabilities are built for them.

What it means to be The Current That Connects Insurance

Applied sits at the centre of insurance, between brokers and insurers and across the moments that matter most: submissions and renewals, servicing, and finance. That position lets us reimagine how insurance flows, and our new brand is built on three ideas that explain how:

  • Connecting the whole lifecycle.Applied connects the essential stages of the policy lifecycle, so data arrives clean, connected and accurate. For brokerages, that means one view of the book of business across lines, roles and locations, plus a closer connection to the insurers they place with. For insurers, it means direct access to distribution partners without having to build a custom integration for each one.
  • Reimagining how insurance flows. When automation and AI take on the busywork, people get to focus on the work that matters most. Brokers spend more time advising clients and building relationships. Underwriters get the data they need up front, so they can spend their time validating it and making decisions.
  • Compounding real value.Better data feeds better decisions, and better decisions drive better outcomes. As connections multiply, their value builds on itself, cycle after cycle. Our mission captures it: create compounding value at every intersection of insurance.

That's what it means to be The Current That Connects Insurance. Every connection carries data, intelligence and action – and each one makes the next more valuable.

One Applied, for brokers and insurers

The new brand also brings clarity to how our family fits together.

For brokerages, Applied Epic® remains the platform you rely on, and your daily work stays intact. All the extended solutions that you have known over the years – like Indio®, Applied Marketing Automation® and many other integrated capabilities – live within the platform. What's added is deeper AI and a broader roadmap built with Canadian brokerages in mind. Think of it as one connected Applied.

For insurers, Applied connects you to the broker channel with cleaner data and less friction. That makes it easier for brokers to place more business with you and puts decision-ready data in front of your underwriters, so you can be more responsive to the brokers you work with. Cytora continues to help insurers digitize risk intake and sharpen decisions, and over time you'll see it connect more visibly with Applied.

Across the channel, openness stays at the heart of how we work in Canada. Applied leads adoption of CSIO eDocs and data standards, supports open APIs that connect Applied Epic with insurers, raters and technology partners, and keeps your data yours. Brokers are never locked into a closed marketplace.

A look that moves the way insurance should

Then there's the part everyone notices first. I'll admit it: I went into this project convinced the Applied "A" was off-limits. It was recognized. It was ours. My position was clear: don't touch it.

But the deeper we got into what this moment asks of us, the clearer it became that we couldn't ask our strategy to be bold while our brand stayed put. So I asked the team to challenge me, and they did.

The result is an identity built around movement: a logo that feels fluid and forward; a bright, energetic blue; graphics with depth and momentum that echo the idea of compounding value; and photography that's warmer and more human, showing the people who make this industry work. It's a testament to the team: the new identity makes our previous mark feel like it belongs to another era.

A brand is only as good as the people behind it

I deeply believe a brand is only as good as the people who bring it to life. Words matter only when the products behind them deliver real value. Visuals matter only when they create an experience people feel. That's the standard we're holding ourselves to.

In Canada, that standard extends to the channel itself. Applied will keep working alongside brokers, insurers, associations and regulators to strengthen the broker channel and keep brokers front and centre for Canadian consumers. To every customer and partner who shared their time and candour with us along the way – thank you. You helped shape this.

The Canadian market is changing quickly. Brokerages and insurers that modernize deliberately, invest in their people and stay connected to the channel will move through that change with confidence. I want this brand to help you be one of them. That's the future we're building with you. Let's get there together.
